  • Praggnanandhaa has beaten Magnus Carlsen several times before. This he managed to do in Champions Chess Tour in 2022. Recently at the Superbet Grand Chess Tour in Warsaw he beat Magnus for the first time in over the board chess, but that Blitz. Pragg had never beaten Carlsen in classical format. This he managed to do on 30th May 2024 at the 3rd round of the Norway Chess 2024. A fantastic game with tremendous accuracy. Check out this battle between the World no.1 and the rising star of Indian chess with commentary by IM Sagar Shah.

MAGNUS once said that its important to beat these youngsters while theyre young to get psychological edge but pragg clearly has no fear of magnus because he got that early confidence when he beat magnus 4-5 times in total in those chess24 rapid events, even someone like arjun struggles against magnus but pragg has a lot of clarity and magnus himself again said that Pragg and Nodirbek are mentality monsters they never break or fear anyone.

With this win, Pragg moves ahead of Vishy in the live rating. This mean, Vishy Anand (world #12) is now pushed to India No 4 after Gukesh (world #6), Arjun(world #7) and Pragg(world #11). Not sure when was the last time this happened: perhaps in early 1980s when he was just learning chess :)
