@@jghenderson23 Yeah I just bought a Bose sound link flex after buying their new headphones. Got to say I wasted my money buying the Sony XE300 last Black Friday. Bose sounds like how you want your speaker to sound. Can’t say the same about the model of Sony speaker I bought.
If you're looking for a TRUE outdoors speaker, then the obvious choice is the JBL EXTREME 4. It has a crisp, clean sound with mostly upper bass, as opposed to low bass, which will drain your battery quicker. Once you take & use a speaker outside, it loses certain sound characteristics, meaning that bass isn't as important outside as it is inside. Last but not least, it has a longer battery life. The battery is also interchangeable, meaning once the battery is completely dead & doesn't charge & or work anymore, you can swap it out with another battery, as opposed to buying another speaker.
No surprise that the Bose sounds the best! The sound quality is superior! Sure it’s pricey, but you pay for quality, and if you’re not satisfied with the price, just weight 5 months until Black Friday this November and get it for half the price 🤷🏿♂️.
I appreciate the comparison. I just got the Bose Max today and it’s going on. But they all sounded good. I’ll admit, however, I’m partial to Bose, yet enjoy learning about other products. Thanks for the comparison review 👍🏽.
In the US and other places, JBL Xtreme 4 and Bose SoundLink Max have a similar price point. Here in my country, the Bose SoundLink Max costs more than double than the JBL Xtreme 4. That said, JBL in a no brainer for me.
A few clarifications: this is a real stereo speaker. There are three drivers: two full range speakers arranged to increase stereo perception and middle tweeter to land the stereo image where it should be and sharpen the image. This is a real stereo speaker. Max volume is the worst place to test any amplifier, speaker, or other audio equipment. There's nothing to learn from max volume. In the case of battery operated speakers, max volume is the place where limiters come on to protect the drivers, ampfliers, keep temperatures low (especially if your outside in the sun), keep the battery safe (HUGE deal) and extend batter life. Of course the sound quality diminishes at max volume! Lastly, if you're going to mic a STEREO speaker, make sure that the STEREO mic is placed in a place where the phases of the right and left channel won't do strange things as the waves propagate out into the room. That is to say that in this case, your "captured" EQ will sound different depending on the distance from the unit. Each speaker will be different. Your video is unfortunately completely subjective to your setup, and is NOT an apples to apples comparison.
Doesn't the Soundlink Max have 3 transducers, 2 passive radiators and a tweeter? Also how many watts is it? And what is the battery mah? I'm surprised a speaker the size of the Soundlink Flex is only 3100mah when the smaller JBL Flip 6 is 4800mah. Hoping the Soundlink Max has a much bigger battery.
@@108mtsan The two passive radiators are taken into account but act as physical stabilizers as well as radiators. The energy used in passive radiators is created by the two main drivers, which are large and power hungry! The main reason to use them is to not have speaker dance around. It rounds out the sound nicely when done correctly. The battery I believe is ~4800mAh typical. But don't get the wrong idea about battery size and play time. All of that can be manipulated and affected by power supply, amplifier, and the flavor of DSP implementation. Larger batteries for smaller units can also mean there are a lot of inefficiencies to overcome to get to the play times you want. IN the case of the soundlink max, it sounds like they've made things pretty efficient because the playtimes are longer with a "smaller" pack. The smaller battery pack is usually an economic decision. More cells = higher price on the market. But with Bose, they look at a battery cell and try to suck as much as they can out of dynamically-- meaning it's not about the watts, but how much current they can source to shape the effect desirable to the customer, which is mostly bass. Bose's competitors don't put the load of managing the battery on the DSP, which means they have to have headroom for inefficiencies, which means larger battery. This is all to say: don't judge a speaker's audio quality and play time by the battery size. It's way more complicated than that.
Hi guys, I have JBL Xtreme 4 & I love it, portable, removable battery, stereo speaker, punchy bass & long last battery. Everything you need from a speaker guys.
Thanks for reviewing and listening! I just bought it Marshall Middleton in light colors and the speaker sounds really interesting and looks almost true to size JBL Charge 5.
I cant wait to hear the Bose MAX. I had the marshall middleton but ended up returning it. Maybe it was defective but mine was a hot mess at high volume. Only sounded great at low volumes. But the higher i raised the volume , the bass would get lost and sounded not so great.
@@ericmartinez4897 I returned mine today too, wouldn’t charge past 90% no matter how much I tried over a week, and it died in like 4.5 hours (not max volume) hopefully the Bose is worth it.
I went with the max and I’m glad I did! I love the deep base and quality build. I got it for 299 on sale so it was a no brainer. It doesn’t get as loud as I thought it would, but that’s okay, the quality sound makes up for it. I love that the JBl has the external battery for replacement, I didn’t know that until now. I still would choose the max though, I’ve always loved Bose, but have had many more Jbls in the past due to price and has had great luck. I pray the battery stays healthy on the max. That’s really the only thing I’m worried about.
I think Bose and JBL would sound way better with custom EQ. I have a JBL speaker, at first I’m using it’s standard eq and I was not satisfied, but when I use my own custom eq, it’s such a big leap. Sounds wayyy better.
I've heard of those three at best buy. JbL extreme 4 more on midrange besides I didn't like its base. The bose is better than everything, the clarity is good, and the deep bass. you can really feel the bass in the bose. that is my opinion. that's why I bought bose soundlink max 💪
Thanks for comparing test. I have a feeling of JBL that there is som Loud effecr turned on. For mi the Middleton are the clearest sound but the Max is very close to him.
I'm using aiwa 450pro and I haven't listened such a critical clear sound from an, portable Bluetooth speaker, please review once. bcoz that richness is mind-blowing
I bought bose max. Though it's not such crispy sound as in revolve 2+, i didn't go with it because of the micro USB charging cable. It's so outdated. But still it sounds great. Battery amazing, quite heavy weigh. Among the three Marshall sounds a bit suffocating ro me. JBL... Thats not the brand I ever consider worth buying. I was also considering some other brands. But having Bose before, it's such quality speakers/ headphones that never die unless you did something to them.
Regarding my Soundlink Max My name is Gaëtan, and I am French. I was hesitating between buying a second Soundlink Flex or the Max. I finally opted for the larger model, thinking that I could pair it with its smaller sibling. Unfortunately, this is not possible, and even more disappointing, you cannot turn on the speaker from your smartphone. This feature is technically possible with the smaller model. Even the store salesperson told me without my asking, “You know you can connect it with your Soundlink Flex!” Well, no, unfortunately not… Why not make this speaker compatible with the Bose Connect app and also with the Bose app? I am disabled, and this remote turn-on feature simplifies my life… Could you perhaps tell me if turning on a Bose speaker with a smartphone depends on the firmware or if it is a hardware issue? Have a nice day.
Supposedly, Bose will be adding compatibility with other soundlink speakers through a firmware update. I'd imagine turning it on/off remotely is also possible through firmware, but I'm not sure if they will add it.
Salut j'ai revendu mon soundlink max le truc c'est que sur certains morceaux la basse a du mal à suivre elle s'emballe une distorsion de fou genre par moment j'entendais les basses faire un genre de PokPok comme si ça touchait les bords de l'enceinte à l'intérieur je ne sais pas trop comment l'expliquer désolé... bref c'est dommage parceque le son est de très bonne qualité et l'effet stéréo aussi

Hello, thanks for bringing up this comparison. I ask you if you listened to the Klipsch Detroit and the x600 versus the Bose and the Marshall, which one do you recommend for watching movies as a portable speaker. Greetings 🙌🙌
I have not listened to the Klipsch so i cant say on that one. I guess it depends on what you're watching. If it's an action movie...you might enjoy the Deeper bass of the Bose. The marshall could also do well thanks to its 360 degree sound.
I think it depends whether you're listening outdoors or indoors, I own several JBL and Bose BT speakers I am more biased towards the JBL outdoors because of the boosted mids and a more open sound BOSE for indoors because they are generally well balanced for closed environments, however you put them outside, some of the frequencies get "drowned" in the mix.. You put theJBL inside, mids and lows can be too overwhelming
@@108mtsan You have to get the right tool for the job. Music speakers and PA speakers are different for good reasons. Using Bose as an example, the soundlink max and S1 Pro+ are even close to acting the same.

While watching the video, I immediately understood that BOSE is a 0.5 class higher than the other two, even though I do not like its new childish design compared to old soundlinks like the good old Bose soundlink Bluetooth Mobile Speaker III. I have not looked at whats newt since then and was very disappointed about its shape and look. I would wish it to be designed more seriously (Swiss Wathc-like) and suitable for modern minimalistic room design. Speaking in terms of sound, we need to find other models to compare with MAX, if they even exist. Thanks for the video.
How is We hear 2 limited edition compare to this speakers?? I'm in between Bose, Middleton, We hear 2 limited edition (100 watt) I feel as Bose is the cleanest at high volume.

Thank you in advance God bless you
I have these speakers: two soundcore x600s, two Bose Flex’s, a JBL Boombox 3, a UE Boom 3 , and a little Clip 4. Is there room or a need or a particular sound/bass I’m missing that I should get the Bose Max? How similar is it to the x600’s?
I have owned many Bluetooth speakers in my life and the Bose max for the size beats them all out there. I have a UE epicboom currently and a hyperboom and honestly sounds better than the Epicboom. One he missed to compare here on the review.
All 3 sound amazing! The Xtreme seems marginally better in terms of open sound. ? Sadly I think it is Mono which is JBL's cost cutting. After all that recording and engineering to create a great stereo soundstage and imaging and they squash it to Mono! It also is the best value for money plus has a shoulder strap. Bose and Marshall are Stereo but expensive so even if they sound a bit better, (bass!) the JBL wins on value for money. This Marshall seems to not have a strap? And the Bose, I think you have to buy one. Great comparison!
Marshall way to mids, Bose clear, deeper, smoother bass. JBL balanced and better sound signature. also JBL has more mid Highs (1khz to 10khz). JBL and Bose is so expensive. JBL better for outdoors. I prefer JBL’s design. Just looks better and more exciting. Nice and pretty detailed review.
I own a JBL flip 6 and am quite happy with its quality and performance...however I would want to add a Marshall too to my stock...will I be able to pair my JBL flip 6 with Marshall Middleton...both are bluetooth 5.1....any wise and right feedback would be highly appreciated
Hi I have 2 Bose soundlink flex. My question is if 2 Bose Flex paired together In stereo mode will sound louder and better than this new speak? The disadvantage for me is that always need to pair them together, but still if they sound better than the new Bose is pointless to buy the new one. Thanks.
@@gtbigdog3507 I have already 2 Bose flex and i was thinking to sell them and take the new Bose max if it's sounds better than them together. Otherwise i'm really happy with flex.
I'm not sure if 2 connected Flex are stereo or mono. I have a pair of the Flex and just got the new Max. The Max plays louder with fuller sound. One advantage of the Flex is placing them apart. A pair of Flex may be enough for many, but the Nax is louder and cleaner sounding. knowing I'll be able to pair the Max someday, that would be my choice.

I heard all 3 the other day ,Marshall in real life sound flat ,and doesn't have same bass deepness or crisp clarity treble..Bose and JBL p1isses on Marshall😉
Mhh i would say that the Marshall sounds a little more warmer and natural then the JBL or the Bose. Bose is quite boomy and JBL is more Bass and Treble oriented. But yeah, the Bass in the JBL gets lower, 45hz. So that's a difference. Still I wouldn't buy JBL- in my opinion it's just a party sound and the Marshall sounds more mature.
I'll wait for Tribit to release Stormbox Blast II which is sure to demolish everything in its path I still swear by the Stormbox Blast as the best stereo paired speaker system
I tested Bose and i forget everything, from high to mids no distortions only two issues: a bit heavy and pricy😢 but the bass is beyond compare. Seems like a Bose Acoustimass in small footprint
@@jay-ti7kd the recording isn't that good on this video, the bose has far more bass. The marshall is a little bit louder probably (after seeing floss's video)
Marshall had the most bass to 50% but it's rapidly losing once you go above 60% I'm going to two Marshall for value and compactness. Even though I think One Bose is slightly better at high volumes. Either I go one Bose Max or two Marshall's paired. Problem is I haven't heard Bose on live once I do I'll make decisions. Marshall is 200 Bucks each, Bose is 350. The value ain't there and I'm not going to Carry two Boses.
That's interesting. In your video, the JBL Extreme 4 sounds the best. But, every single time, when I compare Bose to any other similar sized speaker with similar wattage and in person, the Bose always sounds better. The Bose always sounds better even than larger units with more speakers and more wattage. I have to go up substantially to get a better overall sound than Bose. And I really do want to find another option other than Bose because of how they limit pairing and some other features as well as because of the Bose tax! (Need to keep in mind that JBL might only sound better in the video as an artifact of repeated digitalization - from original recording, to bluetooth, to DSPs in speakers, to the mic you are using, to the video recording, to the upload to RUclips, to the playback, to the speakers on my computer ... and somehow the JBL sounds best after all of that!)
The Bose has nice bass but I think the JBL still sounds the clearest for vocals. It's a difficult choice. I got a Charge 5 at the end of last year and while I think it's a fantastic speaker, the bluetooth sucks. It will occasionally start crackling for no reason and if you try to connect two phones at once it just crackles continuously. I'm going to see if I can return it for a replacement and if the replacement has the same problem then I will just ask for a refund or store credit. Not sure which speaker I will get to replace it. I like the size of the charge 5 but I like the sound of these bigger speakers.

@@blueboy1345 thats tru bt JBL cylindical speakers kinda rely a lot on position. say if you were to keep it in the middle of the room you would feel no bass at all whereas if you kept it in the corner the sound would drastically change. this kinda pisses me off with all the flip charge xtreme and boombox speakers

Valid points. Outdoor acoustics are much different.
@@CEONTHEMAKINGyes for outdoors you need more bass

No surprise that the Bose sounds the best! The sound quality is superior! Sure it’s pricey, but you pay for quality, and if you’re not satisfied with the price, just weight 5 months until Black Friday this November and get it for half the price 🤷🏿♂️.
It won't be on sale so soon, I promise. It's a brand new model

There's no substitute for hearing the speakers in person.

🤔🤔🤔
I went with the max and I’m glad I did! I love the deep base and quality build. I got it for 299 on sale so it was a no brainer. It doesn’t get as loud as I thought it would, but that’s okay, the quality sound makes up for it. I love that the JBl has the external battery for replacement, I didn’t know that until now. I still would choose the max though, I’ve always loved Bose, but have had many more Jbls in the past due to price and has had great luck. I pray the battery stays healthy on the max. That’s really the only thing I’m worried about.
You didn’t adjust the EQ on the Bose. There’s a HUGE DIFFERENCE once the EQ is adjusted.
Bose SoundLink Max is on sale for $299 for the next 2 days, I just ordered one!
Custom eq of Marshall just to match in the middle of bose and jbl. When you test a speaker it should be in a standard for all.
yes you are correct.. this video is obviously paid by marshall.. it is all supposed to be in standard default EQ..
I bought the Bose because I already had the Extreme 4, the quality of the three frequencies on the Bose is incredible.
is it way better sounding that the jbl in your opinon
Finally! Bose Improves it! "The lower Bass!" however, still lacks of high treble and slight bass boosted.
I think Bose and JBL would sound way better with custom EQ. I have a JBL speaker, at first I’m using it’s standard eq and I was not satisfied, but when I use my own custom eq, it’s such a big leap. Sounds wayyy better.
What do you have your settings on?
@@KG-zf5ze I have a charge 5, I usually play at around 50% so my bass is 3 notches ups, mids 1, and treble -1 below
There’s usb-c charging port not micro USB
Thank you for another great comparison! 👍
Regarding my Soundlink Max
My name is Gaëtan, and I am French.
@@CEONTHEMAKING Indeed, they are not sure about adding it. But I don't understand why they included it on the Flex and not on the Max.

I think it depends whether you're listening outdoors or indoors, I own several JBL and Bose BT speakers
I am more biased towards the JBL outdoors because of the boosted mids and a more open sound
BOSE for indoors because they are generally well balanced for closed environments, however you put them outside, some of the frequencies get "drowned" in the mix..
You put theJBL inside, mids and lows can be too overwhelming
Someone said JBL is best for club music and Bose is neutral for any music whereas Marshall suits live acoustic music. Is that true?
@@108mtsan You have to get the right tool for the job. Music speakers and PA speakers are different for good reasons. Using Bose as an example, the soundlink max and S1 Pro+ are even close to acting the same.

Bose clear sounds 9:45 ❤
I feel the Middleton sounds the best
The Bose has nice bass but I think the JBL still sounds the clearest for vocals. It's a difficult choice. I got a Charge 5 at the end of last year and while I think it's a fantastic speaker, the bluetooth sucks. It will occasionally start crackling for no reason and if you try to connect two phones at once it just crackles continuously. I'm going to see if I can return it for a replacement and if the replacement has the same problem then I will just ask for a refund or store credit. Not sure which speaker I will get to replace it. I like the size of the charge 5 but I like the sound of these bigger speakers.
